Testimonials
Why Montessori? As my children have grown, I have come to believe that child-led learning is not only the best way to ensure that the kids take in what is being taught, but it is the best way to ensure that they love and care about what they are learning - because they choose it! They are encouraged to seek out challenges with the expectation that they can work independently. Montessori education has matured my kids and helped them to develop confidence and master skills that they would not have even been exposed to elsewhere.
My husband went to Montessori school until he was in the sixth grade and swears that this is the reason he loves to learn and is able to confidently take on challenges and create his own competence in any area. It has enabled him to start and run a successful business and create and sell a patent. He firmly believes that Montessori education creates a confidence and lifelong love of learning that everyone could benefit from, which we want to instill in our own children.
Why SNHMA? This school is amazing. Born of a mother's love to provide the best possible educational alternative to her son, I have seen the energy and caring that is provided in every aspect of this school, -which carries from every member of the staff to every single child enrolled in the school. The level of cooperation, communication, support and interest the staff provides to the families and parents of students is terrific, and they love what they do. This translates to the kids and the enthusiasm they have for all they are presented and everything they are learning. The environment, lessons, and materials are wonderful and have been created and chosen with exquisite care. The low teacher/child ratio allows for so much flexibility with the individual lesson structure that there is always more to learn, and always respect for a child who just needs to absorb it all. My child is deeply interested in art, movement, and music, and these are woven into the curriculum in such a way that she comes home talking about the art project she made about wetlands and biomes without even realizing that she's learning science.
The environment at SNHMA provides a peaceful backdrop to the learning process as it unfolds, with a day that includes lots of physical activity, and lots of calm and serenity as well. The adults provide an example of peaceful and respectful conflict resolution and create a valuable resource for the kids to develop their own ways to work out the issues that arise. All ages and genders, abilities and personalities are integrated and treated with respect by everyone. Why wouldn't I want my child to be educated in such a loving, supportive, creative, enriching, nourishing, and peaceful place?
