Letter from the Head of School
Chances are, if you are reading this letter, you have a school age child(ren) and are exploring educational options available for them. Much like you, I was in this scenario not so long ago and that was how I found “Montessori”. While it was quite by accident, it is a coincidence that I will be forever grateful. You see, I was looking for a school that provided a rich learning environment for my child, where he could learn at his own pace, where teachers are in love with their vocation and honor the privilege of working with young and impressionable children, an environment which compliments our family values, and my list goes on. Does any of this resonate with you?
I found all of this and more at my son’s Early Childhood Montessori school. We were so pleased with his learning experience that we sought for him to continue his elementary years through a Montessori educational philosophy as well. Realizing that options in Southern New Hampshire were few, we worked to bring this educational option to Greater Londonderry, thus the birth of Southern NH Montessori Academy (SNHMA).
As parents tour our spacious, modern and fully equipped facility, the first words out of their mouths are “Wow”. For some, this is a reflection of the simplistic beauty of our classrooms, for others it’s the thematic organization of the classrooms where children are welcomed to actively work with materials especially designed to meet their educational development needs; and yet for others, it is a sigh of relief that they have found an environment in which they know that their child will thrive.
As the tour continues, parents nod with broad smiles, absorbing the explanation of the Montessori philosophy and how this is reflected in the classroom,
- where children work independently and at their own pace, without limitations;
- where, with guidance, children have the freedom to choose their own work thus teaching them autonomy, responsibility, time management, and prioritization;
- where children have the opportunity to practice concepts until they have mastered them, not because they have to, but because they want to, motivated by their natural internal drive to learn and achieve
Smiles continue to broaden, as I describe our Core Curriculum of:
- Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Grammar),
- Math (Arithmetic and Geometry),
- Sciences (Physical, Biology),
- Cultural Studies (Geography and History), as well as the phenomenon of
- Practical Life.
I often hear another “Wow” when I describe our Enrichment Programs, which I call the “seasoning” to our curriculum, they include:
- Daily Physical Education,
- Elementary Latin,
- Creative Arts (visual and performing), and
Have I piqued your curiosity? I sure hope so. All that I’ve described is a reality in each classroom at SNHMA.
I have yet to mention our tremendously talented and dedicated Montessori certified teaching team who are the heart of our school; our lead teachers average over 20 years of educational experience. We maintain a 12:1 student teacher ratio. Our 5000 square foot facility is located just three tenths of a mile from route 93, conveniently located, yet tucked away in an “eco-mecca” adjacent to beautiful apple orchards.
I am pleased to announce that we are expanding our current programs (kindergarten through grade 3) to include a preschool/early childhood program for children ages 3 and 4, this fall. We will continue to expand our programs to meet the growing needs of our student base, adding Upper Elementary (grade 4-6) and Middle School in the upcoming years, evolving to a full campus for children ages 3-15 and preschool through middle school.
I invite you to continue to peruse the website for further information regarding our school and welcome the opportunity to give you a tour and share with you more information about SNHMA as a prospective learning environment for your child.
